Alex Ramos is a self-taught painter based in State College, PA. He paints a wide array of subjects, including still lifes, landscapes, and cityscapes. His photorealistic still life paintings often take up subjects that allow him to explore the complex interrelations between color, light, shadow, and reflection. His landscapes and cityscapes draw especially from the places he has lived and regularly visits, such as Philadelphia, coastal Maine, and his hometown in upstate New York. He works with acrylic paints on canvas and paper, using small brushes to execute lifelike depictions of places and items in the artist’s encounters. In addition to these subjects, he has a popular series portraying popular science fiction characters as Byzantine icons.
