Gathered Threads: The Art of Kumihimo
Kumihimo is the traditional Japanese artform of making braids and cords. In the past, Kumihimo decorations were used as accessories for kimonos as well as samurai armor. New York artist Carolyn Kerr was introduced to Kumihimo in 2010 and combines fine silk threads and yarns in many color and textures, precious stones, silver, and Japanese glass beads to create unique pieces that balance refined sophistication with unexpected, playful details. Learn more about the history of traditional Kumihimo and see Carolyn’s creations during this special exhibition.
